Description
(syn. Lilium apertum s.l., ex. S. Garvie, CN: Yunnan: Nujiang, Fugong, near Yaping pass)
Some 1.5m tall, huge plants with large flowers in shades of pink, with distinctive blue pollen.
An old collection of mine grown to perfection by Steve Garvie in Scotland. For simplicity this would fit neatly into a large Lilium apertum, but in the very paper Gao decided to split out the yellow flowered N. gongshanensis this particular plant also seemed genetically distinct. There’s enough variation within “Nomocharis aperta” to easily be able to split it into at least 5 distinct species, but much like with Meconopsis it might just be easier to lump them all into one hugely variable species?
Do not sow under glass or inside, the seedlings are extremely sensitive to heat and need cool, fluctuating early spring temperatures. They will withstand light freezes, but they will not withstand too hot conditions!
8+ seeds per package. Collected 2025.
