Description
(syn. Lilium apertum s.l., CN: Yunnan: Xianggelila, Tianchi lake, 3350m)
A species (or form, if you insist) that we’ve collected countless times over the years, and admittedly one of the better in a garden setting if you’re in a cool summer climate. 40-50cm tall stems, with large, open pink flowers with varying amounts of spotting in May/June. Prefers moist and acidic conditions.
I could go on a rant about the group of plants formerly called Nomocharis, and in particular the “species” now generally named Lilium apertum… If you do choose to consider the yellow flowered Nomocharis gongshanensis a valid species, then this most certainly is one too!
Do not sow under glass or inside, the seedlings are extremely sensitive to heat and need cool, fluctuating early spring temperatures. They will withstand light freezes, but they will not withstand too hot conditions!
12+ seeds per package. Collected 2025.
