I am pretty sure this fits neatly into M. bijiangensis, but so many new species have been described from the area that I threw on an “aff.”… It’s a slightly different shade of blue from what I’ve photographed in the wild myself, but the extremely thorny seed pods certainly match. Monocarpic, for cool summer climates in a peat border or similar, protect from too much winter wet.
Do not sow under glass or inside, the seedlings are extremely sensitive to heat and need cool, fluctuating early spring temperatures. They will withstand light freezes, but they will not withstand too hot conditions!
