Description
(CN: Yunnan: Nujiang, Fugong, Yaping pass, 3600m)
Lovely little lily species that is near impossible to grow, thus the price… This is a species we tried – and largely failed – at introducing multiple times, I’ve shipped out thousands of seeds over the years. This particular collection is bought in from a local, but guaranteed to be true to name.
Do not sow under glass or inside, the seedlings are extremely sensitive to heat and need cool, fluctuating early spring temperatures. The main issue is that this particular species just isn’t particularly cold hardy. A single person in the mildest and wettest part of Norway has succeeded raising it from seeds, everyone else in supposedly suitable climates have failed – if the bulbs get too much frosts they’ll die, especially when pot grown. It’s growing wild in seasonally soggy grassland in acidic clayey soils, which by late fall/early winter have dried up completely.
These seeds are sold in the hopes someone might succeed, I’ll personally try treating them like one would Japanese Arisaema, drying off the seedling pots in late fall and putting them to rest in a refrigerator. If you’re anywhere with summer temperatures above 30C then please don’t order this, it’s only known from a single spot in Yunnan, and already being decimated through collection for bulb sales both to Chinese customers and to people in the West.
8+ seeds per package. Collected 2025.
